After spending four days in EFCC’s custody, a sober former Finance Minister, Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, has made a huge cash refund to the Commission.
It was part of the campaign windfall she got from the Office of the National Security Adviser, NSA. This was confirmed to the Vanguard by a competent source at the EFCC.
The powerful Senator from Kaduna was the Director of Finance for the Peoples President Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation. It is alleged that she got N2.5 billion from the N4 billion that was released by Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, as the apex bank obeyed Dasuki’s orders.
However, releasing her from detention is still out of the question. The source said that regaining her freedom depends on how fast she refunds the money that was traced to her. “It is to be expected that the woman could be released on administrative bail as soon as she refunds the amount we traced to her.”
