Contrary to initial report yesterday, more than 48 natives of Uzo-Uwani Local Government, Enugu State were killed by marauding Fulani Herdsmen despite security report that the attack will happen. 56 people have been injured in the attacks.
Soldiers and mobile policemen sent to secure the community were overpowered by the herdsmen, witnesses say.
Apart from those killed and injured, more than 60 houses and shops were set ablaze by the herdsmen. About 56 injured residents are receiving treatment at hospitals in Nsukka
The injured are now treated at hospitals in Nsukka. Residents said that the herdsmen used grenades, AK 47, machetes and other dangerous weapons in carrying out the killings.
Meanwhile, Bishops have called on President Muhamadu Buhari to end the killings. Speaking after their 34th Conference in Ibadan, presided over by the Prelate, Dr. Samuel Chukwuemeka Uche, they said human lives can no longer be sacrificed for the grazing of cows.
