Fotso
With those who wrecked the former Nigerian Airways still influential in Nigeria today, a Cameroon court has jailed for life the former head of the defunct national carrier Camair, Yves Michel Fotso, The Vanguard has reported.
He was found guilty of embezzling 32.4 billion CFA francs, about $55.7 million, when he was chief executive of the airline, from 2000 to 2003.
It is alleged that Fotso formed three front companies, which rented aircraft to the airline. But the planes had already been fully paid for with public funds.
The court also found Fotso guilty of making fraudulent withdrawals from a Camair account with the Commercial Bank of Cameroon.
Fotso had before been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment in a separate case of corruption.
