Bowing to pressure and public outrage, the Nigerian Army has at last arrested the killer-soldier, who killed a woman, Akparobi Orobogha on her daughter’s wedding day around Jakpa junction, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State last Saturday.
The 4 Brigade Nigeria Army Benin City Public Relations Officer, Captain Jonah Unuakhalu confirmed the arrest in a statement released today. He expressed regret over the tradegy and said that investigation is ongoing.
“The soldier concerned has since been arrested and investigation is ongoing. The Brigade wishes to assure the general public that once investigation is concluded the finding will be made public and the soldier if found culpable will be prosecuted according to military law,” the statement said.
Checkpointcharley reported on May 1 that the woman was killed while on her way to attend her daughter’s wedding. According to eye-witness account the soldier had beckoned on the tricycle carrying the woman to stop, but the rider refused to heed and fled. Thereupon the soldier illegally shot at the fleeing tricycle, which killed the woman.
This blog was also outraged that the soldier was not immediately arrested.
