Chelsea ended the slim title dream of city neighbours, Tottenham Hotspurs when they held them to a 2-2 draw at Stamford bridge. That helped Leicester City to win the Premier league title, with two matches still remaining, in one of the most remarkable upsets in sporting history.
Leicester started the campaign on 5,000-1 to win the title after almost being relegated last season.
Former Leicester and England striker, Gary Lineker described his home town team’s achievement as “the biggest sporting shock of my lifetime”.
The Leicester players according to sports observers have simply achieved sport immortality.
It is also a deserved achievement for manager Claude Ranieri, one of the best coaches in the world that was yet to win a league title. He was Mr. Runners-up – finishing second with Chelsea, Athletico Madrid, Inter Milan etc.
He was so happy with what he and his boys achieved, winning a league ahead of big names like, Mant Utd, Man City, Arsenal and last year’s champions, Chelsea.
“I’m so proud. I’m happy for my players, for the Chairman, for the staff at Leicester City, all our fans and the Leicester community. It’s an amazing feeling and I’m so happy for everyone. I never expected this when I arrived. I’m a pragmatic man, I just wanted to win match after match and help my players to improve week after week. Never did I think too much about where it would take us.”
“The players have been fantastic. Their focus, their determination, their spirit has made this possible. Every game they fight for each other and I love to see this in my players. They deserve to be champions,” he said.
