EFCC Freezes INEC Chiefs’ Accounts
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said yesterday that it believes the $115m election bribe money, which former petroleum minister Diezani Alison-Madueke gave to INEC chiefs, is from earnings on stolen crude oil.
An official, who pleaded anonymity due to the “sensitivity of the matter” said: “Our operatives have discovered that the $115 million came from stolen crude oil. They got it from former Petroleum Resources Minister Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke.”
He also promised: “We will uncover how they came about the stolen crude oil and those used to siphon the oil in order to deny the nation of revenue.”
Meanwhile the EFCC has frozen the bank accounts of top INECchiefs implicated in the bribery scam and oil barons involved in the $115m (N23.29b) bribery.
A source said that the EFCC will press charges against Alison-Madueke as the fraud’s central figure and that all the INEC chiefs involved and the Managing Director of Fidelity are due for arraignment.
