
Witnesses have told The Vanguard that smugglers on Sunday ambushed Customs officials at Oke- Odan township in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State. They had seized vehicles with contrabands and were driving them to their Idi-Iroko office.
The shooting that ensued, after the customs called for re-enforcement, left seven dead, including three children, a roadside mechanic, panel-beater and a secondary school leaver, identified as Ade. Others sustained various degrees of injuries.
It was learnt that the re-enforcement team arrived and started shooting sporadically and stray bullets hit some residents.
Although Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi and his Customs counterpart, Usman Abubakar, while confirming the incident put the death toll at two.
