Ibrahim Uwais, a son of former Chief Justice of the Federation, Mohammed Uwais, died yesterday near Aleppo, Syria, Saharareporters has reported. He fell as the United States targeted members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in ferocious airstrikes.
Ibrahim Uwais had secretly traveled to Syria in February 2015 to join ISIS and he was one of numerous ISIS fighters, who died when US military aircraft bombarded ISIS camps near the beleaguered Syrian city of Aleppo.
“Ibrahim died today on the battlefield in Aleppo,” a source told Saharareporters. He said that one of the two wives of the deceased currently stuck in Syria would notify the family of his death.
It was learnt that Ibrahim Uwais left Nigeria in 2015 when he told family members that he was going to Turkey to explore business opportunities. He took along his two wives and five children. But he crossed over to Syria from Turkey with his family and joined the army of volunteer ISIS fighters.
His father was one of the brightest Supreme Court justices and Checkpointcharley, as a law student was fascinated by his legal opinions. He was Nigeria’s Chief Justice from 1995 to 2006.
