President Muhammadu Buhari today at an anti-corruption event in London agreed that Nigeria is fantastically corrupt. Asked categorically if Nigeria was fantastically corrupt as alleged by British Prime Minister, David Cameron, Buhari answered yes.
In his speech, the Nigerian leader sees corruption as a “hydra-headed monster” that threatens the security of countries and “does not differentiate between developed and developing countries.”
Buhari also said that he does not want “any apology from anybody”, referring to the diplomatic discourtesy of Cameron, rather he said he is more interested in the return of stolen assets hidden in British banks.
Corruption in Nigeria is endemic, he said but pointed out that his government was committed to fighting it.
The British Prime Minister hosts world and business leaders at anti-corruption summit on Thursday in London. The summit will aim to “galvanise a global response to tackle corruption.”
