SUBSIDY REMOVAL: Rowdy session as Reps show anger against Minister of Petroleum

The arrival of the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu triggered a rowdy session today at the House of Representatives.

Despite inviting the minister to appear before it over the recent hike in the price of fuel, angry members of the House of Representatives, in a show of anger over the insensitive withdrawal of petroleum subsidy, nearly prevented him from gracing the chamber.

It was only after House Speaker, Yakubu Dogara rigged the voice vote he ordered, in order to allow or disallow Ukachukwu from entering, that he finally entered the house. The majority of the members had thundered:“No! No!” Unfortunately, Dogara said the “ayes” have it.

However, the angry lawmakers refused to be short-changed as they continued with their negative chants. Few minutes of commotion ensued before it was finally announced that it would be an executive session, without journalists and observers.
