At last, the final destination of the $40million put aside for the release of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls has been unravelled. It ended up in the big babariga pocket of the former Principal Secretary to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Hassan Tukur.
Tukur, who is in the custody of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has confessed this, Saharareporters reports.
Tukur reportedly received $40 million from the office of the National Security Adviser after boasting that he could secure the release of the Chibok girls by getting Boko Haram to negotiate, using his contacts in Chad, including Chadian President, Idriss Deby.
One EFCC source said Tukur had claimed that he shared the remaining money with Jonathan after it turned out that the Chadian President only got $5million.
According to a source at the Presidency, President Muhamadu was surprised when he recently found out from his Chadian counterpart during a regional security summit that only $5million was given to him. He wanted to know from Deby why he collected $40million and did nothing.
Deby then disclosed that he was told that the Jonathan administration voted only $10 million for the negotiations. The Chadian President blamed Jonathan and his aides for the failure of the venture, as they abandoned the negotiation midway. This according to him, forced Chad to abandon its efforts, not minding that Chadian troops were close to rounding Boko Haram militants and freeing the girls.
Interestingly, Tukur also served as a principal secretary to President Buhari when the latter was a military dictator in 1984.
