Two days after beating Crystal Palace 2-1 in extra-time to win the FA Cup, Manchester United has axed Dutchman Louis van Gaal, BBC reports.

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is expected to be named as replacement.
Van Gaal, 64, is shown the gate after two years of a three-year contract. He is at the moment negotiating severance conditions with United.

The former Netherlands coach earned around £6.4m a year. The future of Ryan Giggs, Van Gaal’s assistant at Old Trafford and the rest of the coaching team, remains hazy.
