Nigeria’s Obinna Nsofor saw red in the dying minutes of the match between his team Duisburg and Wurzburg Kickers in a decisive play-off game for diving. He would have seen yellow, but the referee was forced to show him the red card for abusive behavior.
The Nigerian was convinced he should have been awarded a penalty.
Obinna lost control and on his way out, he attacked the fourth official, Frank Willenborg, shouting at him, “it was a fucking penalty…you fucking goat”.
Wurzburg won the encounter 2-1, after winning the first leg in Wurzburg 2-0, to gain promotion to the second division. It was Wurzburg Kickers first year in the third division, having gained promotion from the fourth division last year.
Obinna will now certainly face disciplinary action from the German Football Association.
