Plot to prosecute Jonathan thickens, EFCC gets first petition

Former President Goodluck Jonathan may have rightly read the handwriting on the wall as he continues to avoid setting his foot on Nigeria soil. The nation reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday received a formal petition requesting it to probe him over the alleged mismanagement of $2.1billion released to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) for the purchase arms to fight Boko Haram.

The petition likewise asked the EFCC to invite Jonathan to explain why he released N400million of public money to former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, for personal and party use.

It is the first petition the EFCC will receive demanding the prosecution of Jonathan.

According to the Nation the May 24, 2016 dated petition came from a former member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Ikenna Ejezie. It was however written on his behalf by his lawyer, Barrister Osuagwu Ugochukwu.

Ugochukwu copied both President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mallam Abubakar Malami.

The development confirms the whisper making circles that there is a plan to arrest Jonathan once he returns to the country
