German coach, Joachim Löw (56) today named a solid 23 man squad during a press conference at the team’s training camp in Lugano for the European Championships beginning in France on June 9.
The greatest surprise was the dropping of Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus on his birthday. He turned 27 today. Reus had missed being part of the cup winning team of Brazil 2014 due to injury. This time around, Coach Jorgi Löw tried to explain his surprise decision by saying that it was based on doctor’s advice that Reus is not fit enough for Euro 2016.
However, many disappointed Dortmund fans would argue that that is also the case with Hummels and Schweinsteiger, who made the final list.
Included in the list are three players of the future, among whom are, Schalke’s attacking sensation, Leroy Sane and Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich.
Teams have till midnight today to officially submit their final list to UEFA.
Going home with Marco Reus are Karim Bellarabi (26/Bayer Leverkusen), Julian Brandt (20/Bayer Leverkusen) and Sebastian Rudy (26/1899 Hoffenheim)
The lucky ones are:
