It was obvious that the Kogi State APC government yesterday used soldiers to clog the wheel of democracy when the soldiers sealed the State House of Assembly and prevented law makers from entering the chambers to carry out their legislative duties.

It was gathered that the unconstitutional act was to prevent the impeachment of the speaker, which was on the table for the day. The move to impeach the speaker, Mr. Momoh-Jimoh Lawal is being spearheaded by a group of lawmakers, who call themselves the G5. They are opposed by the G15, who support Lawal.

But the Kogi State Government, said to be uncomfortable with the move to remove Lawal, sent 15 soldiers to the Assembly complex as early as 6am, who prevented legislators from entering the parliament as they trickled in for the business of the day.

G15 Spokesperson, Matthew Kolawole was speechless over the turn of events. He said the group was shocked to discover that soldiers from the Army Records Unit, Kogi sealed the Assembly.

Meanwhile, Special Adviser to the State Governor on Media and Strategy, Alhaji Abdulkareem Abdulmalik denied government’s involvement. But he said that the soldiers were there to prevent a breakdown of law and other.
