Suspected Fulani herdsmen on Monday inflicted anguish on Tse Aondo and Tse Ankou communities in Benue State by killing seven persons, the SUN reports.
According to the report, the herdsmen were already done with their mission by the time anti-riot policemen reportedly arrived, following a distress call. However, two used shells of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from the scene by the police.
It is suspected that the attack may be a reprisal over an unidentified herdsman said to be missing after he visited Gbeji market in the communities on May 8. But the police insists that the two are not connected.
In the meantime, residents of the two communities have fled, fearing that the herdsmen are not through with them yet.
Nonetheless, the State police command claim they are on top of the situation, saying that its Criminal Investigation Department are already snooping.
Spokesman for the command, ASP Moses Yamu, was unavailable for comments but a senior officer, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the attack.
