The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today told the Federal High Court in Abuja that former spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential Campaign Organisation for the 2015 election, Femi Fani-Kayode is still being held in prison because of another ongoing criminal investigation.
EFCC said there is a fresh allegation against him, apart from the case of the N800million which Fani-Kayode allegedly got from the $2.1bn meant for procurement of arms.
The anti-graft agency told the court that its special task office in Lagos received a fresh petition against the former minister. This was why Fani-Kayode, was moved from Abuja to Lagos, EFCC explained.
EFCC counsel, Salisu Majidadi, was responding to a fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed by Fani-Kayode before Justice Olukayode Adeniyi. He is seeking an order releasing him from the custody of the anti-graft agency.
Fani-Kayode’s lawyer, Ifedayo Adedipe (SAN) countered and said there was no proof that there was any ongoing investigation of his client.
The judge after hearing both sides on adjourned till June 29 for judgement. The implication is that the former minister will continue to be in EFCC custody till then.
