
Hal Robson-Kanu’s 81st minute goal gave the Welsh something to cheer about in a very long time as it secured Wales a 2-1 lucky win over Slovakia, who were better in the game.
A trademark10th-minute free-kick by Real Madrid star Gareth Bale had given Wales the lead before Ondrej Duda equalised in 61st minute.This is Wales first major tournament since the 1958 World Cup.
Wales now play England next on June 16.
Kanu’s, whose father is Nigerian, started by playing for England, the country of his birth by making his debut in the U-19 against Germany in 2007, but later switched to Wales the country of his grandmother. Interestingly Kanu was schooled at the Arsenal Academy. He was however released when he was 15 and he joined Reading.
