.ISIS claims responsibility

An Afghan-American has caused enormous anguish for families across American when he shot and killed 50 people at a gay friendly disco (PULSE) in Orlando, Florida in the early hours of today. Over 53 others were wounded with many of them in serious conditions. The name of the attacker, who was a security man guarding federal buildings, was given as Omar Seddique Mateen.

Before he went on the rampage with a rifle and short gun, he had called 911 and pledged his allegiance to ISIS – recalling the terror attacks on the Boston marathon. The mayor of the city has confirmed the killings and the numbers. He was eventually killed by law enforcement agents in a shoot-out after, they blew up a locked entrance to the building, where Mateen had held several other disco guests hostage.

A frustrated United States President, Barack Obama condemned the attack, calling it an act of terror and hate. Obama confirmed that it is the most deadly mass shooting in the history of America. He ordered all flags at federal buildings across the country to be flown at half staff and also that of American Embassies and Consulates all over the world.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is leading the investigation.
The gunman, an ISIS sympathiser, was aged 29 and born in New York to Afghan parents.
The terror group, ISIS yesterday claimed responsiblity for the attack, which they say was carried out by one of their fighters. Amaq News, a Syrian news agency, with close ties to the Islamic State, confirmed that the group is responsible for the attack
