Sturridge Breaks Welsh Hearts As England Win Battle Of Britain

England 2-1 Wales

Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge scored in stoppage time to save his country, England from a possible Euro 2016 early exit. It also handed England victory in the battle of Britain.

Wales, playing in its first international tournament since Sweden 1958 (World Cup), looked liked they have gone through to the last 16 fifty-five minutes into the game. Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale had scored with a well taken free-kick  three minutes to half-time to make sure that the whole of England was quiet.

But it did not last long as Jamie Vardy and Sturridge came on at half-time to rekindle the Three Lions. Vardy equalised in the 56th minute, while Sturridge made sure his countrymen will stay late into the night at pubs when he grabbed the dramatic winner in the 90th minute to drive a sharp knife through Welsh hearts. He broke Welsh hearts!

Before then, it had looked like England was condemned to win their last match against Slovakia to avert an early Euro 2016 exit. But we have now seen how only a goal changes a lot of equations. Now it is Wales who have to win Russia to have any hope of progressing, while England need only a draw against Slovakia.
