Those in charge in Rivers State have failed to restore law and order as cultists continue to hold sway. At least, another 11 people were Wednesday killed in Omoku town, the headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, ONELGA, of Rivers State by suspected cultists, who invaded the area, Vanguard reports.
It was gathered that two people, including a popular medical doctor in town, Dr. Erike, were kidnapped by the cultist during the raid.
This adds to series of senseless killings in Omoku, as a result of the supremacy battle between two rival cult groups, the Icelanders and the new Greenlanders.
According to the report, members of the Greenlanders, Wednesday night, invaded the area releasing mayhem on the residents. Eleven people got killed in the process.
A source that related the development to the newspaper said that the Greenlanders stormed the area with heavy gunfire and that several people including the Special Adviser to the Caretaker Chairman of ONELGA on Sports and Youths Affairs, Mr. Smart Igwe, sustained bullet wounds.
The source informed that the gunmen invaded Dan Street, Omoku, where they killed four persons and abducted two of their victims, before heading for Obigwe community where three people were killed. He also disclosed that the killers later yesterday morning revisited Omoku, killing four more people.
A helpless Rivers Stat Police Command said it was aware of the incident but said it was purely cult related. The Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Ahmad Muhammad confirmed that three cultists died in the clash.
