Despite the immunity conferred on Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fasoye by the 1999 constitution, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) has frozen his personal bank account and that of his associates.
Speaking at the premises of Zenith Bank, Ado-Ekiti, where he had his personal account, Fayose said he got wind of plans by the Presidency to freeze his account some days before after he was frozen when an officer of Bank informed him that his account has been put on ice on the order of the EFCC.
The Governor fumed and described the action as criminal and illegal. Quoting Section 308 of the 1999 constitution, Fayose said he enjoys immunity as a sitting governor. He told the federal government to fight corruption within the scope of the law.
