The Government of President Muhammadu Buhari seems unperturbed by the vocal opposition coming from the Senate over the impending trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu over alleged forgery. Unless something most dramatic happens,Saraki and Ekweremadu, will be arraigned tomorrow before an Abuja High Court sitting at Jabi on a two-count charge of conspiracy and forgery.
The Federal Government, through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, accuse the two of acting in criminal concert to forge the Senate Standing Orders, 2015. They would be charged alongside the former Clerk of the National, Alhaji Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa and his deputy, Mr. Benedict Efeturi.
The alleged fake Standing Order was used to conduct the July 9, 2015, which facilitated the emergence of Saraki and Senate president and deputy senate president respectively.
The Federal Government maintain that they had, by their conduct, committed an offence punishable under Section 97 (1) and 364 of the Penal Code Act.
It remains to be seen if both will continue to lead the senate under the burden of criminal prosecution.
