World champions, Germany beat Northern Ireland 1-0 via a Mario Gomez goal and substitute Jakub Blaszczykowski scored for Poland also in a 1-0 win against Ukraine in Marseille to ensure that both teams qualified for the knockout round from Group C as first and second respectively.
The results meant Croatia, Hungary and Slovakia have also qualified for the last 16.
Germany will now play the third placed team in Group A, B or F in Lille on Sunday while Poland will face Switzerland in Saint Etienne on Saturday.
