Underdogs, Hungary, against all odds, just topped Group F after Ronaldo’s Portugal held them to a 3-3 draw with the Real Madrid striker netting twice. Three times Hungary led and three times Portugal came back.
Iceland finished second after a 2-1 win against Austria. Highly rated Portugal came third but qualified on the rule of one of the best third placed teams. That now leaves Portugal with a battle against England in the knockout phase.
Austria finished last with just a point and will try again in four years, if they scale the qualifiers.
