Republic of Ireland left the best for their last group game as they sensationally defeated group leaders, Italy 2-1 to qualify for the knock-out round of the EURO 2016 as one of the best third place teams with four points. Robert Brady scored the lone goal in the 85th minute to send the whole Republic.into ecstasy.
It is the first time the Irish national team will qualify from the group stage of the European Championship.
Ireland’s win deflated Turkey’s hope of going through. It meant an end to Turkey’s France 2016 campaign. The same goes for Albania.
The second game Belgium took care of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Sweden with a late goal to finish second behind Italy also on six points to qualify.
Sweden finished last with only a point from three matches and they have crashed out of the competition.
