Argentinian superstar and five time world player of the year, Lionel Messi, has retired from international football after Chile defeated Argentina in the Copa America final for the second time in two years.
Chille won the thrilling final which was eventually decided by penalty shootout in the US state of New Jersey after the match that had ended 0-0 at the end of extra time.
Messi and Lucas Biglia missed their penalty kicks. Chile won the shootout 4-2 to lift again the Copa America.
“For me the national team is over. I have done all I can, it hurts not to be a champion,” Messi told reporters after the match.
