The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested Mr. Abiodun Agbele for allegedly abetting Governor Ayodele Fayose in handling over N1.219billion during the controversial Ekiti State governorship election in 2014.
Agbele is Fayose’s closest friend, EFCC say.
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest but refused giving further details. “It is true that we arrested some men who were fronting for governor. They are in our Lagos Office. That is all I can say for now,” Uwujaren said.
The N1.219bn is said to be part of the N4.7bn diverted from the impress account of the Office of the National Security Adviser and deposited into the bank account of a company, allegedly owned by the two sons of a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro.
EFCC sources hinted that Agbele been on the watchlist of the commission following recent discovery that he played a major role in the receipt and laundering of huge sums of money from a former Defence Minister, Musiliu Obanikor, with the aim of rigging the 2014 Ekiti guber elections.
