Gunshots and several explosions have been reported at the Ataturk International Airport, Istanbul. There are reports of multiple injuries, Turkish Interior Ministry has said. This comes on the heels of many terror attacks on Istanbul and Ankara. Government blames it on the separatist group PKK, fighting for an independent Kurdish state.
According to officials at least one of the blasts is a suicide bombing. At the moment, No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.It could be ISIS as well. There are no indications as to how this happened. The airport, the third largest in Europe is a very busy airport and one of the most protected in the world.
Ambulances, medical staff and more police personnel have been deployed to the scene, which is at the International Terminal.
Turkish Justice Minister has said that at least 10 people were killed and more than 60 people were injured. But the Istanbul governor later increased the death toll to 28. It also later emerged that two suicide bombers blew themselves up at the departure area. Police had shot at the suicide bombers to prevent them from causing heavy damage.But they succeeded in detonating the bombs before they could be neutralized.
