World number one Serena Williams kept the July tradition alive by crushing Germany’s Annika Beck 6-3 6-0 in dominating fashion to record her first win on the so-called People’s Sunday. It seems to be now a tradition for one of the Williams sisters to win the Wimbledon.
Since 2000, Serena and her sister has won 11 of the 15 tournaments, with Serena taking the crown six times.
The 34-year-old American will play Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova in the last 16 on Monday as she continues to pursue Germany’s Steffi Graf’s record of 22 major titles. She is only one title short.
