Two goals in three minutes from Christiano Ronaldo, who shone like a star, and Nani destroyed Wales ambition of becoming the first British team to qualify for the final of a major tournament in 50 years.
After a goalless first half, Ronaldo leaped higher than ever everyone to powerfully nod home corner from Santos in the 50th minute. Before Wales could respond to that, Nani added salt to the injury inflicted on Wales when three minutes later he deflected in a feeble cross from Ronaldo from close range.
Those two goals ended Wales’ historic run.
Ronaldo has now equalled France’s Mitchel Platini European Championship 9 goals as he helped his country to its first final in a major tournament since 2004 . They now play the winner of France versus Germany match in the final on Sunday in Stade de France, Paris. It will be Portugal’s first final since 2004 when they were defeated 0-1 by Greece.
Ronaldo was announced as the man of the match.
It was the first time the Portuguese team won a match within 90 minutes in this year’s competition. But they did it when it mattered most to send Wales home to a heroes welcome after a solid campaign.
