It was a dark day in the history of American law enforcement as lone sniper on Thursday night shot at eleven police officers protecting people peacefully protesting the killing of two black men by policemen, killing five in the process and left seven wounded.
One of the killed officers is a woman while another, identified as Brent Thompson, just got married two weeks ago to a fellow policewoman. He just came back to the US after working in Iraq as security officer with the US military.
Three people have been already arrested in connection with the shooting. One of the suspects say there are bombs planted everywhere downtown. That the end is coming. One of the suspects has been confirmed dead by Dallas Police.
It is the deadliest attack on law enforcement since 9/11. President Barack has condemned the attack from Warsaw, Poland, describing it as “calculated, vicious and despicable” attack on law enforcement.
Former President George W Bush, a Texas native, said he and wife Laura Bush are “heartbroken by the heinous acts of violence in our city last night.” The Bushes also own an estate in Dallas.
“We join our fellow citizens in saluting the fine law enforcement officers in Dallas and across the country who put their own lives in the line to keep all lives safe.”
A Texas official tells AP that a slain suspect in the attack on Dallas police was 25 year old Micah Johnson, a former Marine, who lives in Mesquite, Texas with his mother.
His intention is said to be racially motivated. During negotiations, in a 45 minutes shoot-put with the police, before he was blown up by a police robot to stop him from unleashing more havoc, he told the police that he was angry over white policemen killing of black people. He said that he wanted to kill white people, especially white police officers.
“He said he was upset about the recent police shootings,” Dallas Police Chief, David Brown said. “The suspect said he was upset at white people. The suspect stated he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers.”
US Officials say that he had no criminal record and that he has no link to any terror group.
