Okezie Ikpeazu will remain governor of Abia State until the Appeal Court decides the motion of stay of execution over the decision of Justice Okon Abang of a Federal High Court in Abuja on June 27 ordering him to vacate office and asking INEC to issue Uche Ogah a certificate of return.
Today in Abuja, Justice Abang found a way to extricate himself from the confusion he had caused when he refused to hear Ikpeazu’s application for stay of execution of the June 27 judgment.
Rather the judge directed Ikpeazu and Ogah to go before the Court of Appeal to argue the motion on stay of execution so as to resolve the stalemate in the state.
The reason for referring the matter to the appellate court was because lawyers to Ikpeazu and Ogah had argued that the judge no longer had jurisdiction to hear the motion.
Also today, a Federal High Court in Owerri affirmed Ikpeazu’s election as governor of Abia state and said that he did not forge his tax certificate.
