Accusation Of Selective Justice Resuscitated As EFCC’s Magu Evades Question On Buratai’s Dubai Homes

EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu

Accusations of selective justice against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) came to the fore again yesterday as its acting Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Magu evaded questions on calls for the probe of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai over his acquisition of Dubai properties worth $1.5m.

Magu was leaving the Rockview Classic Hotel, in Abuja, venue of a one-day workshop on ‘Anti-corruption, ethics of the legal profession and justice sector,’ co-organised by the Nigerian Bar Association and the  Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption. Magu had braced himself to take questions from journalists. However, once the first question was about Buratai’s Dubai homes, he vanished into his waiting car and was driven away.

Meanwhile, earlier at the event, the same Magu had lamented various corrupt acts including a case where a civil servant paid over N800m as legal fee to a lawyer.

He asked how a civil servant could have legitimately earned as much as N800m to pay a lawyer.

This comes few days after some prominent lawyers, including Femi Falana (SAN),  had urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sack  Buratai, if the Army Chief refused to voluntarily resign following revelation about his Dubai properties.

The EFCC and the government of President Buhari have been widely accused of waging a selcetive war against corruption.
