In an obvious move to placate those against his reign and unite a severely divided red chamber, Senate President, Bukola Saraki today reshuffled the leadership of Senate committees and gave his critics juicy positions.
The most outspoken critic of the Senate President, Kabiru Marafa, was given the chairmanship of the Petroleum (downstream) Committee. He was hitherto chairman of the Committee on National Population.
Similarly, Oluremi Tinubu, a stunch member of the anti-Saraki Unity Forum, was named chairperson of the Committee on Environment. She had before now headed the Committee on Women Affairs.
Saraki announced the appointments shortly before the senate adjourned today.
Suleiman Hukunyi, another member antagonising Saraki was made chairman of the Committee on National Identity.
The re-composition of the Senate committees was one of the conditions stated by Unity Forum Senators for peace to reign in the Senate.
