Liverpool have agreed a deal with Newcastle United for midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, according to Sky sources.The 25-year-old, capped 30 times for the Netherlands, underwent the first leg of medicals at the club’s Melwood training ground yesterday and is expected to return today to complete it.
Liverpool have offered Wijnaldum a five-year deal. If completed. The deal will cost the Reds about £25m.
Wijnaldum only joined Newcastle in a £14.5m move from PSV Eindhoven last season but was unable to help the club avoid relegation from the Premier League.
He was, in any case, Newcastle’s leading scorer last season with 11 goals, four of them in a 6-2 league white-wash of Norwich.
