Hillary Clinton Picks Tim Kaine As Running Mate

Hillary Clinton Tim Kaine VP Pick

Democratic Presidential candidate, Hilary Clinton has picked Virginia Senator, Tim Kaine to be her running mate. She named him in an email sent to her supporters on Friday night, seeking a boost from a tested politician from a battleground state.

“Tim is a lifelong fighter for progressive causes and one of the most qualified vice presidential candidates in our nation’s history,” Mrs. Clinton said in an email to supporters a day after GOP nominee Donald Trump lambasted her as unqualified to be president in a speech to the Republican National Convention. On Twitter, she called Mr. Kaine “a man who’s devoted his life to fighting for others.”

Mr. Kaine, also on Twitter, said he couldn’t wait to hit the campaign trail with her Saturday in Miami, Florida. The 58 year old senator is widely seen as a good and safe choice. He is broadly respected in the Senate, has a foreign-policy background and is seen by Mrs. Clinton and close aides as a potentially strong partner in governing.

Mr. Kaine has never lost an election. He was first elected to office—the Richmond City Council—in 1994 and went on to serve as mayor and then as Virginia’s lieutenant governor. In 2005, he was elected governor, and in 2012, he won his Senate seat. He also served a stint as chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Though Kaine is white, but he could help Mrs. Clinton win minority voters. It is well known that he took a year off law school to help run a technical school founded by Jesuit missionaries in Honduras. In 2013, he sensationally delivered a speech in Spanish on the Senate floor in support of an immigration overhaul. He also has a good relationship with American black committee. He had joined a predominantly African-American Catholic church in Richmond, a majority-black city.
