
There was jubilation in Maiduguri on Monday as the wife and daughter of the Shehu of Bama, Alhaji Umar Kyari el-Kanemi, abducted by the Boko Haram militants about two years ago, were brought back by the Nigeria Army after rescuing the two from capacity.
The General Officer Commanding, the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Victor Ezugwu, brought them to the Shehu of Bama’s abode in Maiduguri at about 1.30pm after they were rescued by the military somewhere around Damboa.
The return of the mother and daughter elicited wild jubilation by members of the royal family and some of those present at the monarch’s abode when they were brought to the monarch could not hold back tears of joy.
Queen Hajju was abducted along with two of her children, a boy and a girl, when the town fell to Boko Haram two years ago. However the terror group killed the son while in captivity.
