Indonesia has executed three Nigerian convicted of drug peddling by firing squad, an official has said. The convicts were shot by firing squad at the Nusa Kambangan penal island shortly after midnight local time.
The Nigerians were executed alongside one Indonesian, Noor Rachmad, deputy attorney general for general crimes, told the press. The executed Indonesian was named as Freddy Budiman, while the three Nigerians are: Seck Osmane, Humphrey Jefferson Ejike Eleweke and Michael Titus Igweh.
He however did not say why 10 other drug convicts, who had been expected to face the firing squad, were not put to death.
Ejike was unjustly killed, according to his lawyer. “At this stage, we can only say that we are extremely disappointed with the fact that Jeff was executed,” said Raynov Tumorang by text message. “The government does not respect the ongoing legal process on Jeff’s case.”
“There is strong evidence of torture and he was not given a fair trial. Racism towards our client can be seen in the court decision.”
