.Usain Bolt Remains Invincible
Defending Champion and world record holder, Usain “Gold” Bolt has retained his 100m Olympics title by dusting rival Justin Gatlin of USA to second place with a time of 9.81 to begin his quest for the triple, triple.
Despite a poor start, Bolt rallied for a powerful finish to secure his third 100m gold medal in three successful Olympics. He had trailed for most part of the race but stormed back powerfully in the last 10meters to deny Gatlin and remain invincible. He is now the first man in history to win the 100m in three Olympics.
Gatlin got out smoking and had led most of the way, but Bolt’s big strides just ate up the gap as he caught the American from behind and then won it in the final 10 meters. Interestingly, as he crossed the finish-line Bolt hit his chest with his right hand in a show of victory. Gatlin finished .08 seconds behind to settle for silver, while 21-year-old Canadian Andre De Grasse took the bronze.
Bolt can still win two more golds, in the 200 meters and the 4×100-meter relay. , which will see him complete an unprecedented triple, triple – having won those gold medals in the two previous Olympics. He and Jamaica are favourites to take the title in both.
With this victory in the 100m dash, there is no more doubt left that Bolt is the greatest sprinter the world has ever seen
