Diego Costa’s Late Strike Secures First Premier League Win For New Manager Conte

West Ham's Andy Carroll makes it 2-1 with 11 minutes remaining

Diego Costa’s 89 minute desperate shot, when Chelsea was on the brink of dropping points against city rivals Westham, did not necessarily avoid disaster, but it sealed a good start for new manager Antonio Conte in the Premier League.

The Blues 47th minute lead through Eden Hazard’s penalty had been cancelled by defender James Collins ruthless left-footed half-volley in the 77th minute and Stamford bridge fans were beginning to accept that the season would not be a dream start before hot-headed Costa, who should have been sent off for his crude challenge on Westham keeper Adrian, came to the rescue.

Michy Batshuayi, a £33million signing substitute  headed the ball down to Costa, who nicely brought it under control and fired a weak shot that went through the legs of James Collins.

It therefore means that all the new star coaches in the EPL won their first matches in charge.
