New signing Zlatan Ibrahimvic scored his second Pl goal in two games when he remained focused to nod United 1-0 up in the 36th minute, despite Pogba running across his line. Rooney had swung over a cross from the right flank, it went pass Pogba but met Ibrahimovic, who leaped higher than Jose Fonte and powered a downward header into the corner of the net.

The Saints had a goal disallowed in the 51st minute. Dusan Tadic thought he had headed in the equaliser but referee spotted he pushed a defender.
