Nigeria’s football U23 Dream Team VI have given Nigeria its only medal at the ongoing Rio Olympics. They beat Honduras before a sparse crowd in Horizonte 3-2 to win the bronze medal.
A brace from Roma striker Sadiq Umar and Aminu Umar’s fine finish early in the second-half put Nigeria 3-0 up.
But Honduras never gave up as they fought back with goals from Anthony Lozano and Marcelo Pereira in the final 20 minutes to set up a nervy finish. The Mikel Obi led side nevertheless held on for bronze after they failed in their gold medal quest – losing to Germany 0-2 in the semifinal.
