World No. 1 Serena Williams of the United States has crushed 47th ranked Johanna Larson of Sweden 6-2, 6-1 in the third round of the US Open to set a record of 307 grand slam wins – the most in female tennis in the open era.
She had equalled the 306 career Grand Slam match victories recorded by Martina Navratilova in her second round win over fellow American Vania King on Thursday.
It is the third meeting between Serena and Larson and the third straight sets victory for the American who is aiming for her 23rd grand slam title, which will see her overtake Stefii Graf (22).
