Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday paid a surprise visit to two of his predecessors, former military President Ibrahim Babangida and former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar in Minna, Niger State.
Jonathan’s visit to both former heads of state triggered speculations as to the purpose of the visit.
There was no statement on the visit to Minna Hilltop, where the two retired generals have their mansions.
Dr. Jonathan spent roughly an hour at Gen. Babangida’s house and held private talk with him for about 45 minutes before he proceeded to Gen. Abubakar’ s residence, a source tells Checkpointcharley
Former Minister of State (Finance) Bashir Yuguda and Jonathan’s one-time Chief of Staff, Mike Oghiadomhe accompanied the former president on the visit.
Jonathan later tweeted on the Minna trip on his handle @Gejonathan:
“As I visit my elder brothers and predecessors today, I am further committed to building bonds of unity for Nigeria!”
