Liverpool have beaten Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on a night David Luiz made his second debut for the Blues after rejoining from French champions, Paris Saint Germain.
Dejan Lovren silenced the crowd with a well-worked free-kick seventeen minutes into the game. While Jordan Henderson fired in the second in the 36th minute with a 30-yard shot that had looked like going wide over the bar when it was taken but then made a dip to sail into the net for a wonder goal.
Diego Costa scored his fifth goal of the season sixteen minutes after the break to pull one back for Chelsea. But it could not prevent the Reds from inflicting on Chelsea their first defeat under new manager Antonio Conte.
Liverpool are now level on points with Chelsea, who missed a chance to go top of the Premiership with a win.
Pep Guardiola’s Man City now have a chance to extend their lead at the top when they face Bournemouth at the Etihad on Saturday.
