
It has been revealed that a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Mr. Patrick Akpolobokemi, paid N40million as rent for an apartment in Banana Island in Lagos.
A prosecution witness, Orji Chukwuma dropped the bombshell when he told this to a Federal High Court in Lagos.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had charged Akpolobokemi and three others before the court for alleged N8.5 billion fraud.
Chukwuma, on Wednesday tendered the receipt for two year tenancy before the court as physical evidence.
He said Akpolobokemi paid the N40m in three tranches of N12m; N14m and N14m respectively.
Also a prosecution witness, Teslim Ajuwon, had on Tuesday told the court how the former NIMASA boss fraudulently transferred N8.5billion into the account of the Military Joint Task Force, MITF in the Niger Delta – “Operation Puelo Shield’’, within nine months.
