Alexis Sanchez and Oliver Giroud grabbed a brace each as Arsenal brilliantly dazzled bottom-placed Sunderland 4-1 at the Stadium of Light to go top of the English Premier league.
Arsenal, held to a frustrating goalless draw by Middlesboro at the Emirate last weekend, announced they meant serious business with only nineteen minutes played when Sanchez put them 1-0 up.
The Gunners paid for their complacency in the 62th minute as Damien Defoe equalised from the penalty spot. But the goal only set Arsenal on fire with the Arsene Wenger boys scoring three goals in 13 minutes. Giroud restored Arsenal’s lead after only six minutes of the equalizer and added another goal five minutes later before Sanchez completed the rout in the 78th minute.
After missing to top the league last weekend on Wenger’s birthday, the Frenchman have been handed a post-birthday delight.
Manchester City could however join Arsenal at the summit should they win at West Bromwich Albion later today.
