Newspaper columnist and former presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, still in EFCC custody for his alleged role in the sharing of PDP 2015 election slush funds, has offered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to refund N5 million to government.
Sources say that Abati admitted receiving N50 million from former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki during grilling.
The government of President Muhammadu Buhari alleges that the money was part of $2.1 billion earmarked for the purchase of arms for the fight against terror in the North East.
Mr. Dasuki is standing trial for allegedly misappropriating the money.
Checkpointcharley understands that Abati made the offer on Monday night.
Mr. Abati has been unable to meet his bail conditions and would regain his freedom once he meets the requirements of an administrative bail granted to him last week.
